Convert an image to PNG, JPG or WebP

Load any image your browser can show and save it as PNG, JPEG or WebP.

How to convert an image

  1. Paste an image with Ctrl+V, drop a file on the page or press Load.
  2. The Save menu opens. Pick PNG, or pick JPEG or WebP, set the quality and press the Download button below it.
  3. The file downloads, named after the original with -edited added (a pasted image is named after the date and time), and a message shows its size.

Which format to pick

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, and keeps transparency. Use it for screenshots, diagrams and anything with text. Photos saved as PNG get large.

JPEG makes photos small. It can't store transparency, so transparent areas turn white. Each save compresses the image again, so keep the quality high for a photo you'll edit more.

WebP is usually smaller than JPEG at the same quality, and keeps transparency. Current browsers and most apps open it, but some older software doesn't. Safari can't write WebP, so there you get a PNG instead.

Location and camera data

A converted file has no EXIF data, so the location, camera and date a photo carried are left behind. More on that in remove location data from a photo.

FAQ

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is converted in your browser, and it never leaves your device.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPEG I started with?

PNG stores every pixel without loss, which takes far more room for a photo than JPEG's compression. Save photos as JPEG or WebP.
